Does ear wax removal hurt?
For most people microsuction is not painful. You may hear a soft suction sound and feel a light sensation of movement, but there is no sharp pain. Carl works carefully and will pause at any point if you feel uneasy.
How long does an appointment take?
A typical appointment takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how much wax is present and whether one or both ears are treated. The check at the start adds only a few minutes.
How do I know if I have a wax build-up?
Common signs include muffled or reduced hearing that came on gradually, a feeling of fullness or pressure, new or worsening tinnitus, itching in the canal, or hearing aids that whistle or underperform. A quick professional look confirms whether wax is the cause.
Can you remove wax for hearing aid wearers?
Yes. Hearing aid users tend to build up wax more quickly because the aid blocks its natural exit. Microsuction is ideal because it is precise and water-free and does not put your hearing aid mould at risk.
What if there is no wax when I arrive?
Carl checks the ear canal before doing anything. If there is no wax, or the wax does not need removing, he will tell you honestly and will not carry out a procedure you do not need.
Do I need to use ear drops before my appointment?

Can I drive after ear wax removal?
Yes, for the vast majority of patients. Microsuction involves no sedation or medication, so your ability to drive is not affected. On rare occasions a brief, mild dizziness can occur, but it usually passes within a few minutes.

There is no single rule. Some people never need it; others build up wax quickly and benefit from a visit every six to twelve months. Hearing aid users usually need more frequent checks. When symptoms return, that is a good prompt to book.
